WHAT COLOURS GO WITH NATURAL LEATHER FURNITURE?

We read an article recently published in Better Homes & Gardens, featuring different paint houses’ contender for Colour of the Year 2023.  Here is a sample of their colours – which include variations on neutrals, dark greens and calming blue-greens, as well as various warm earth tones.

Spanish Moss
Raspberry Blush

It’s gratifying to see how the trending paint colours for 2023 align with Klooftiques’ signature palette – one that inspires everything we do – including fabric choices, scatter cushions and accessories. Our core palette is built around:

  • Charcoals, greys and blacks
  • Dark olive greens
  • Deep midnight blues, almost leaning toward black
  • Ochre and burnt oranges
  • Hues of brown

And, as manufacturers of timeless and vintage leather couches, sectionals and chairs, the article led to us asking ourselves the question, “What colours go with natural leather furniture?” The answer won’t surprise you – it’s “all of them”. Particularly when your décor scheme includes furniture and accessories that make you happy, with a mix and match of different colours, textures and accents that create a room you love to live in.

Used in design styles that range from clean and contemporary, to modern Scandinavian (Scandi chic) or even ‘seaside cottage’, interior designers agree that pairing a naturally brown leather sofa with a wide range neutrals and creamy whites will give a room a classic look.

Pairing natural leather furniture with any shade of green makes sense – brown and green are seen together in nature as tree bark and leaves, or soil and grass. In the same way, think of the incredible range of warm colours found in autumn leaves in Europe and North America that pair beautifully with natural browns. Even the right shade of yellow will work well.

And, brown goes with brown when it comes to teaming your leather couch or chairs with other, complimentary shades of brown and beige. In this case, using a variety of shades throughout the room adds character to a sophisticated scheme. For a rustic look, using lots of natural wood – from floors to wall cladding or other furniture pieces – teams brown with brown to good effect.

Pairing a leather couch with walls in charcoal or dark navy can gives a modern, edgy look to a room. And in an urban industrial setting, the warm earth tones of exposed brickwork work well with a brown leather sofa.

It goes to show, a high-quality natural leather couch or chair is a versatile investment piece, especially if you enjoy periodically overhauling your decor style. The sleekness of leather upholstery along with its versatility in either being casual or sophisticated creates a timelessness that fabric-upholstered furniture cannot easily match.
