The Characteristics of Oryx leather
When it comes to upholstery leather, there are many variations available.
For clients who prefer a cleaner, polished leather look, we’d possibly recommend a corrected grain. For clients who like a more textured leather, where the beautiful natural characteristics are visible, we’d advise them to go for a full grain.
Then, of course, there are the leathers that are so remarkably scarred and etched with markings of a life lived, that only the most special of designs will do.
This is the case with the Spencer chair from our Klooftique Vintage range. So, for this one-of-a-kind design, we’ve decided to use a rich, striking Butterscotch Oryx leather.
Similar to bovine leather, Oryx leather is known for its rich texture, but featuring more game characteristics, such as a great deal of scarring, stretch marks and tick bites.
As Oryx leather is a game hide, it is not as easily sourced as Bovine hide. Additionally, the usable leather surface is much smaller than what one would find with the standard bovine leather hides.
The Oryx leather for each Spencer chair order is hand selected, with each panel carefully cut and meticulously placed.
This ensures that the Orxy’s distressed characteristics are visible from each angle.
As Oryx leather has significantly more markings and the skins fairly smaller than standard Bovine leather, more hides are used in the production process.
In keeping with our ethos of sustainability, we ensure that each skin is ethically sourced from reputable sources.
